Ten Things I Have Learned Climbing Stairs

Having just finished my first stair climbing workout, where I marched up and down my own stairs in my own house for 30 minutes, I have these things to say:

1. My dog is so dumb, he followed me up and down the stairs for 20 of the 30 minutes. Seriously.
2. It is very boring to climb up and down stairs for 30 minutes. Very boring. Way more boring than a stair stepper. Way more boring than I imagine it would be to climb up a super tall staircase for 30 minutes.
3. I do need to wear shoes.
4. Dire Straits is not good music to help you climb stairs.
5. It is really hard! I was sweating and panting and everything.
6. That thing up in Benny's room that's smelling strange? and we can't figure out what it is? It has GOT to go. I could have climbed all the way to the third floor if not for whatever that awful thing is. Smells like a rotten warthog made of urine. WHAT is it?
7. Wearing just whatever I am wearing on the day of the workout is not a good idea. Needed workout clothes on.
8. There is a railing on the bottom part of the stairs but not the top part.
9. I tend to start out stairs on my right foot. How about you?
10. The fact that I am already dreading my next stair climbing practice bodes ill for my future as a stair climber. It was REALLY boring. So boring.

  1. Books-on-tape. Go for trashy, exciting ones about burly Navy Seals doing undercover ops. I listened to Susan Elizabeth Phillips IT HAD TO BE YOU, there is an exciting chase through an empty football stadium with the heroine and hero and a crazy. I was driving. As it turns out I was driving way too fast as the tension rose.

  2. First of all, you deserve a pat on the back for making it for 30 minutes! I might try something shorter - like 10??? :-)

And, I laughed out loud about your dog. I can just see my dog doing the same thing! And, she'd be so excited about it. Very funny!!!

I hope you figure out a way to make it work for you.

  3. @Holly Wow, books on tape! What an idea! I have been looking for a way to listen to podcasts -- maybe this is the way. Fascinating concept.

@School Thanks! The dog did finally get irritated with me and just stayed on the landing. But the first like 40 times, he just registered total "Oh, we're going upstairs!" "Oh, we're going downstairs!" repeat, repeat, repeat without any awareness that we had just come up or down. Dogs are dumb! And awesome!

By the way, I did buckle down to business and determine what the hell the smell was in Benny's room. It's fixed now. Let's never speak of it again.

Hey, no, what WAS the thing in Benny's room? Inquiring minds want to know.

  5. Jess says, "I have two words for her - audio books" So he seconds that idea.

Yes, I would also like to know what was stinking in Benny's room!!! Maybe you should have us guess the nastiest things for a week, then tell us?
